John Gray a friendly cabman has an alternative career as a body snatcher in 1830's Edinburgh. He lives alone, but for his ginger cat, that he obviously dotes on. At one point the film features a wonderful scene focusing on the cat as it watches a fight, which we see in the shadows on the wall behind him.
