As this Children's Film Foundation film starts we see a cat escape through a window and head across a field to an old tower. A tower that some children's model plane unfortunately lands it. And they have to find some way inside to retrieve it! Once they manage to get inside they find some kittens! So that's why the cat went inside! The children then find a way out and take the cat and her kittens back to a grandparent's house to rehome.
