A kid works out that a comic book writers stories are being distorted as code for a number of robberies. So they approach the writer, who happens to dote on his cat Otto.
Later the kid's theories are dismissed by the police and his boss 'I even believe in Santa Claus' as we see an old man picking up a cabbage from the gutter as a kitten sniffs around.
On the run the kids take to the sewers and on leaving a kitten curiously looks into the drain.
