Dr Franklyn's servant offers a stolen kitten to the Dr's daughter, but Katy is saved when the Dr. sees her with the animal and he snatches it away from her.
Later Harry Spalding, the cat's owner, breaks into the Franklin household, and finds Katy locked in a cage, but unable to open it he has to leave her.
And at the finale we find the Dr using the kitten and a rabbit, as bait, whilst he tries to dispatch the titular creature, but succeeds only in starting a fire. Fortunately for Katy, Valerie Spalding, is on hand to save her from the flames.
